2. Web 2.0

The web is an every evolving world of change. Everything is moving so fast with the amount of information available and how people use the web. Blogs, Wikis, MySpace, FaceBook, YouTube, etc. has changed how we communicate. Libraries need to keep abreast of how people communicate and search for information to get people interested in coming into the Library. Libraries will need to keep up with the changes and be open to new ways of doing things to help our patrons. Technology has played a key role in the changing face of libraries. They have changed tremendously over the last several years and will change even more in the years to come. The following link was very insightful on the existence of Library 2.0 http://www.blyberg.net/2006/01/09/11-reasons-why-library-20-exists-and-matters/

6. Online Image Generator

This had a link to Carlton College that used a cute idea of using trading cards for staff members to promote library use and would be handed out to patrons that would have specific information (i.e. librarians subject area of expertise, liaisons to specific departments and contact information)

5. More fun with Flickr

This was really cool. Here are a couple of the Ten Best Flickr Mashups

This one is captioner on captions on photos.

This was a cool color picker http://krazydad.com/colrpickr/
"Select a color from the color wheel and the Colr Pickr loads a selection of twelve photos from Flickr that best match your selected color."

7. Web 2.0 Communications

Email is a great way to communicate at work when you want to inform other staff of meetings, send minutes and send out information to let everyone know about a particular topic. The problem with email is that we all get too much so we don't have time to get to all of them and may miss some important information.

Instant messaging might be a good way for Reference Librarians to communicate with library patrons. There is a very interesting link with pros and cons of using IM for communication by staff in the library at this site http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/CA512192.html Using IM here in our library might help with better communication and staff might communicate freely without the email trail of messages.

Webinars are a great way to get training remotely when you can't travel to the workshop or training being offered in another location. A large number of staff can all get the information either at their own computer or in a classroom setting broadcasting the webinar. We use these in our library and they are well attended. There is usually an opportunity to ask question of the presenter even though you are not physically at the location.

23 things

This is all very interesting but it sure can take a long time to navigate the links, takes way to many clicks and is easy to get lost.

4. Flickr

Flickr is an easy way to share photos and is easy to use. Flickr has been used by libraries to take pictures of books/items on display with clickable pictures that go to either purchase the book on Amazon or to the library's online catalog. Photo sharing on the internet is easy and is a good way to keelp your photos for safe keeping. All you have to do is upload the pictures and add tags (titles) to them. Photos can be shared or private. They are safe, organized and searchable.

23 things on a stick is fascinating and a great way to learn new terminology and explore web links. I had fun creating my avatar and fantasizing about being a rock star!
